TThe Northwest Pacific Ocean has the largest heat and carbon dioxide (CO2) fluxes, and at the same time, it is a sea area that nurtures a wealth of life and production. However, various problems are predicted to arise, such as air pollution from East Asia and shortage of food and energy resources due to the increase in world population. There are still many uncertainties regarding climate change and marine ecosystems, and we have yet to make a scientifically-based assessment. At this workshop, we will take a look at the current efforts from the marine science side and discuss the research policies for the next 10 years, while also asking how stakeholders see this direction. It will be an opportunity to think together about what is missing and what is needed.
